Terms
Who may hold an account, what you buy when you buy tickets, and on what terms.

What you buy
A pack is a collection of short sentences on one subject. Taking one adds it to your Penrow account, and its sentences then appear on your device. The ones you keep, and what you ask to read more about, are also shown in the app. The rest of a pack is read on the device only.
What you buy is tickets. You take a pack with tickets you hold, or, if it is Free, by adding it. No pack is sold for money.
A pack belongs to your account rather than to one device, so every device you hold can read it.
You can take a pack only if it is on sale in the language of one of your devices, and not one you already own.
Packs come in tiers, and each paid tier has its cost in tickets: Essential is the base tier, whose packs take one ticket each, and a Signature pack may take more. Some packs are Free. A pack’s tier and its cost in tickets are shown before you take it.
A pack may be on sale only during certain periods of the year. Outside them it leaves the shop, and whoever already owns it keeps reading it.
Price and payment
Tickets are sold by the batch, never one by one. Each batch brings a set number of Essential tickets, shown with its price before you pay.
The price is shown before you pay, in the currency of the country you are connecting from, or in US dollars where we have no price in that currency. The amount on the payment page is the amount you pay. [To fill: whether prices include VAT or sales tax, and who collects it].
Payment is taken by Stripe on its own page. We never see your card details.
In the app, tickets are bought through Apple on an iPhone outside the United States, and through Google Play on an Android phone. That store takes the payment, at the price it shows, and its terms govern it.
Free packs
A Free pack costs nothing and needs no ticket. You add it to your account yourself, from the app or from this site; nothing is added without you. It stays yours if it later carries a price.
Tickets
A ticket is spent on a pack. Each ticket has a worth: an Essential ticket is worth one, and a Signature ticket what a pack of its tier costs. You take a pack with tickets whose worth together is at least its cost, with none to spare. A ticket is held by your account, not by a code: it cannot be passed to someone else, sold, or exchanged for money. To give tickets, buy them as a gift (see Gifts).
A new device brings tickets of the Essential tier to the account that first sets it up. A device that someone else has already set up brings none. We may also give you a ticket at other times; nothing obliges us to.
You choose the packs, then confirm once. Until you confirm, nothing is spent. Once you confirm, each ticket used is spent for good: the pack is yours, and it cannot be swapped for another. If one of the packs you chose cannot be taken, none is, and your tickets stay as they were.
If you switch on Tilde picks, Tilde also picks packs for you and takes them with your tickets. Each one is announced the day before by a notification: for 24 hours you can ask for another or refuse it, and nothing is spent. Without an answer, the pack is taken and one ticket is spent. Tilde takes only 1-ticket packs and always leaves at least 2 tickets in your account, plus those your selection needs. You can switch Tilde picks off at any time.
A ticket does not expire. You keep it as long as your account exists; it is deleted with your account.
A pack taken with a ticket carries no refund of its own. When an order of tickets is refunded, the packs its tickets were used on leave your devices (see Refunds and disputes).
A pack Tilde added can be returned within 7 days, while fewer than 5 of its sentences have been read and its price in tickets has not changed: its ticket is given back to you, and that pack is not offered to you again.
Immediate delivery and your right of withdrawal
The tickets you buy reach your account as soon as your payment is confirmed, and a gift’s code is sent to you then.
A consumer in the European Union normally has 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. For digital content supplied at once, that right ends when supply begins, provided you asked for it to begin at once and acknowledged that you would lose the right. The payment page asks for both before you pay, in these words:
- For tickets bought for yourself: “Your tickets reach your account as soon as you pay, and you agree that this ends your right to withdraw from the purchase.”
- For a gift: “The gift code is sent to you as soon as you pay, and you agree that this ends your right to withdraw from the purchase.”
This does not affect your rights if a pack does not reach your device or does not work as described. The refund policy covers those.
Gifts
You can buy a batch of tickets as a gift. A gift adds nothing to your own account: once it is paid, you receive a twelve-character code by e-mail and on your account page.
Whoever enters the code in the Penrow app, under “Redeem a gift”, or on this site’s /gift page, receives the batch’s tickets, of the Essential tier, and chooses the packs to take with them. A code works once, for one account.
If the payment for a gift is refunded or disputed, its code stops working. If the code was already used, the tickets it gave that are still unused are removed from the account that used it, and so are the packs the others were used on.
Refunds and disputes
A refund takes back what the order gave: its tickets still unused are removed, the packs its other tickets were used on leave your devices, and a gift’s code stops working. The refund policy says when we refund.
If a pack was taken with tickets from two orders and one of them is refunded, the pack leaves your devices and the tickets from the other order are given back to you.
If you dispute a payment with your bank, what that order gave is taken back in the same way.
Your account
An account is held by an adult: you must be 18 or older to create one. The holder buys the tickets, takes the packs and sets up the devices, a child's device included; a child reads the device and never holds the account.
You accept these terms by ticking the box on the sign-in page, each time you sign in. Your account records the version you last accepted; this is version 2026-10-22.
Packs belong to the account that took them. If you delete your account, its packs go with it. We keep a record of each order, no longer linked to your account.
Announcements from us
We send you announcements, such as a ticket given to you or a new pack, only if you asked for them. There are two switches, one for notifications on your phone and one for e-mail; both are off until you turn them on.
You can turn either off at any time: in the app, and for e-mail also on your account page here. Every such e-mail ends with a link that turns them off without signing in.
These switches do not stop the messages your account needs: sign-in codes, receipts, gift codes, and notices about your devices.
